guacamole recipe

Guacamole is an avocado-based dip that has its roots in Aztec culture. After having guacamole prepared table side in a Mexican restaurant, I became a fan. Below you will find my guacamole recipe (the more cilantro, the better). If you love cilantro as much as I do and want to learn how to grow cilantro, check out my blog post how to grow cilantro in your home garden.

GUACAMOLE

  • 2 ripe avocados (Outside skin should be dark in color and somewhat soft when squeezed)
  • 1 lime
  • 1 medium tomato diced
  • ½ of a small red onion diced
  • 1 clove of garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  1. Cut around the perimeter of both avocados and twist in opposite directions to pull apart.
  2. Remove the large seed.
  3. Using a sharp knife, make cuts in both directions around the inside half of each avocado. Take a spoon and go around the sides and scoop out the avocado into a bowl. Perform this process on all four halves.

  4. Mash the avocado with a fork and squeeze the lime over the avocado.

  5. Add the diced tomato.

  6. Add the diced red onion.

  7. Add the minced garlic.

  8. Add the fresh cilantro.

  9. Mix all ingredients together and salt and pepper to taste.
  10. Let sit in the refrigerator for 30 minutes prior to serving.
  11. Serve with your favorite tortilla chips and enjoy!
